FORT HOOD, Texas — Fort Hood officials along with Bell County and the Texas Military Preparedness Commission officials will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3 p.m. Dec. 11 to formally recognize a recently installed visual surveillance system at the Robert Gray Army Airfield and Killeen Fort Hood Regional Airport.

Extensive cooperation between officials from Fort Hood, Bell County and the Central Texas cities of Killeen, Copperas Cove, Gatesville, Harker Heights and Belton coordinated their efforts to qualify for the $4.7 million Defense Economic Adjustment Assistance Grant (DEAAG) from the Texas Military Preparedness Commission’s (TMPC) for the security improvements.

The TMPC is part of the Governor’s Office and advises the Governor and the Legislature on defense and military issues and ways to strengthen the position of Texas military installations in preparation for a potential Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) and other defense-related issues.

Additionally, an Intergovernmental Service Agreement (IGSA) for monitoring the surveillance system by the city of Killeen was approved in September 2019.

III Corps and Fort Hood Deputy Commanding General, Maj. Gen. Scott Efflandt, Bell County Judge David Blackburn and a representative from the TMPC will preside over the ceremony and provide remarks.

On Dec. 11 a Public Affairs representative will meet the media at the Marvin Leath Visitors Center located on TJ Mills Blvd. at 2 p.m.
