FORT HOOD, Texas – Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center’s school-based health program is expanding to the Copperas Cove Independent School District beginning March 21.

Medical appointments will be available at Copperas Cove High School on Thursdays. Clinic operating hours are 8-11:30 a.m. Services such as labs, physicals, acute care, immunizations, nutrition weight counseling, behavior health screenings and counseling, comprehensive well-woman services and specialty care referrals will be available to TRICARE Prime beneficiaries attending the high school. A signed, consent form must be on file for the student to receive care. Consent forms are available from the Copperas Cove High School nurse.

“This program benefits both the student and the parent because the student will only miss about 30 minutes of school versus a half day at a doctor’s office. The parent also doesn’t have to miss work, which helps Army readiness if the parent is a Soldier.” Maj. Daniel Chiles, an adolescent medical physician and provider at the schools. “It’s really a great program because you can’t get more patient-centered care than going to the patient.”
