Division West will host a change of command and retirement ceremony at Cameron Field on Fort Hood, Texas at 2 p.m. on December 14, 2020.

Maj. Gen. Frank W. Tate is relinquishing command of Division West to Maj. Gen. Richard F. Johnson.

After serving as the commanding general for 14 months and after serving his country for nearly 33 years, Tate will be retiring from the U.S. Army and relinquishing his command of Division West, First Army. Tate took command of Division West on Aug. 7, 2019 and has helped guide the division in their continued efforts to mobilize and demobilize U. S. Army National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve units in support of combatant commands across the globe.

Department of Defense announced Johnson’s selection as the next Division West Commanding General in a press release on Nov. 30, 2020. Johnson was the deputy director of the Army National Guard in Arlington, Virginia. His previous assignments include Deputy Commanding General (FWD) 101st Airborne Division, Land Component Commander at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts, and dual-hatted as the 26th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade Commander and the FEMA Region 1 Homeland Response Force Commander.

Maj. Gen. Johnson will be available for questions following the ceremony.
