FORT HOOD, Texas – The Soldiers and Families of the 1st Cavalry Division welcomed a new division command sergeant major during a ceremony on Cooper Field at Fort Hood, Texas, Aug 18.

Command Sgt. Maj. Shade S. Munday took on the responsibilities as the senior enlisted advisor for America’s First Team.  For the last eight months, Command Sgt. Maj. Ryan McLane, Command Sergeant Major for the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, acted as the division’s senior enlisted advisor until Munday’s selection.

“To follow through on the efforts of command sergeant major McLane and achieve irreversible momentum in achieving such transformational change in this division,” said Maj. Gen. John Richardson, commanding general of the 1st Cavalry Division. “I hand selected command sergeant major Shade Munday to take this division to even greater heights.”

Munday is no stranger to Fort Hood as he is coming to the division from the 3d Cavalry Regiment where he served as the regiment’s command sergeant major.

“I served with this noncommissioned officer over the last year, while he served as the regimental command sergeant major of the 3rd Cavalry Regiment,” said Richardson. “I am 100 percent confident that he is the right leader, at the right place, at the right time.”

Munday previously served as a Bridge Crewmember, Senior Boat, Section Leader, Drill Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, Instructor for Advance Leaders Course, First Sergeant, and most recently as the command sergeant major for the 36th Engineer Brigade and 3d Cavalry Regiment here.

“It is amazing to be part of the most lethal Division in the world, my Family and I are excited to continue the traditions and look forward to meeting all the Soldiers and Families.”

Munday accepted the responsibility of the well-being of the Soldiers and Families of the division, as he received the division colors by Richardson – one, which he said, he feels ready for.

“I leave you with a quote from Benjamin Disraeli,” said Munday. “The secret of success in life is for a man to be ready for his opportunity when it comes, and I am ready. I pledge nothing less than my best each and every day.”
