FORT HOOD, Texas — 3d Cavalry Regiment will rename 19th Street Chapel to Lucky 16 Chapel in a ceremony here, Oct. 4.

Since May, the regiment has been changing the landscape in their footprint to honor their 175 years of rich history, most recently dedicating Tal Afar Field to the regiment’s liberation of the city in 2005.

On Oct. 4, the regiment will make yet another change, dedicating the chapel to a long-standing cavalry tradition first established in 1979.

Combined, the numbers associated with 2d Cavalry Regiment, 3d Cavalry Regiment and 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment equal 16.

The name Lucky 16 refers to when members of at least two of the Lucky 16 regiments are gathered to celebrate cavalry traditions, share stories, build camaraderie and esprit de corps.

The last time a Lucky 16 convened was Nov. 12, 2019 at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California.

Media representatives interested in covering the event should contact 3d Cavalry Regiment Public Affairs at  (254) 423-5741, or email [email protected] by 12 p.m. Oct. 1.

Media who RSVP should arrive at the Marvin Leath Visitors Center Oct. 4  at 11:45 a.m. to be escorted to the event. The event will begin at 12:30 p.m.
