FORT HOOD, Texas – III Corps will host a ceremony in which U.S. Congressman Roger Williams, District 25,  will present Pvt. Jose Somera, of Georgetown, Texas, the Congressional Gold Medal at 10 a.m. Oct. 25 in the West Atrium of III Corps Headquarters, here.

The Congressional Gold Medal is an award available to veterans that served in organized U.S. military units, to include recognized guerrilla forces, commanded by U.S. and Philippine military officers under U.S. Army Forces in the Far East between July 26, 1941, and Dec. 31, 1946. Somera was a member of the Philippine Scouts, a regular Army unit from Aug. 26, 1946, to April 19, 1949.

Congress passed the “Filipino Veterans of World War II Congressional Gold Medal Act of 2015” to collectively award Filipino veterans of WWII in recognition of their dedicated service during World War II.
