FORT HOOD, Texas — III Corps and Fort Hood Commander Lt. Gen. Paul Funk II will host his final press conference at 2 p.m. May 21 in the III Corps headquarters building here.

Funk, who was recently confirmed for promotion to general (4-stars) and a new assignment as commanding general of U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, will reflect on the accomplishments of III Corps and Fort Hood Soldiers over the past two years, as well as, take questions from the media.

Funk has served as commanding general of III Corps and Fort Hood since March 2017.  He led the III Corps Headquarters and Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve, the mission to Defeat ISIS in Iraq and Syria, from September 2017-September 2018.  During the III Corps headquarters’ deployment, more than 1.6 million people in Iraq and Syria were liberated from ISIS control—including Raqqah, Syria the capital of the ‘so-called’ Islamic State.

Funk  is the 60th Commanding General of the III Armored Corps and Fort Hood, Texas, commanding four combat divisions, a sustainment command, a cavalry regiment, a fires brigade, and multiple enabler units encompassing almost 90,000 Soldiers on five installations across five states.

A ceremony for Funk’s departure is scheduled for June 5.  No formal announcement has been made for Funk’s successor.
