UPDATE 2: Fires in Fort Hood training area 90 pecent contained

UPDATE 2: Fort Hood Fire Chief Billy Rhoads said 10 a.m. April 30 that the extreme fire conditions are reduced and the Fort Hood range fire at Blackwell Multi-use Range is 90 percent contained with nearly 600 acres burned. The fire on Lone Star Range is also 90 percent contained with nearly 500 acres burned.

The two fires continue to pose no danger to any homes, structures or infrastructures. No firefighters have been injured and there is no danger to the general public.

Fire crews continue to cut fire breaks around the fire to minimize the fires' ability to spread.

UPDATE: Fort Hood Fire Chief Billy Rhoads said in a noon press conference April 29 that the Fort Hood range fires are now 30 percent contained. Fire crews are working two fires that cover nearly 1,000 acres on two different ranges. One fire is just north of Blackwell Multi-use Range and the other is on the Lone Star Range south of North Fort Hood.

The two fires pose no current danger to any homes, structures or infrastructures. No firefighters have been injured and there is no danger the general public.

Rhoads said that fire crews continue to cut fire breaks around the fire to minimize the fires' ability to spread. Crews will continue to fight the fires and monitor hot spots.

FORT HOOD, Texas -- At approximately 1:30 p.m. April 28 Directorate of Emergency Services reported a grass fire in the vicinity of the live-fire impact area just north of Blackwell multi-use range.

The fire is approximately 500 acres. Air assets and ground support vehicles are on standby while officials survey the scene.

Additionally, Bell County Strike Team has been notified and is standing by to assist if needed.
