FORT HOOD, Texas – Family members, friends, and Fort Hood leaders unveiled the Spc. Vanessa Guillén Gate at a ceremony today.

Lt. Gen. Pat White, III Corps and Fort Hood commanding general’s prepared remarks are here:

Ladies and Gentlemen and distinguished guests, Good afternoon and welcome to the Specialist Vanessa Guillén Gate dedication.  I would like to especially welcome the Guillén Family for making the trip up from Houston to be here this afternoon.

Today, we honor and celebrate Specialist Vanessa Guillén, and the tremendous influence that her life had in implementing actions to improve trust, discipline, and teamwork across Fort Hood, III Corps, and throughout the Army.

This gate in front of us today, leads to the 3rd Cavalry Regiment area, where Vanessa was assigned and served her country.  Current and future troopers of her squadron and the regiment will always be able to look to it as a reminder of the impact she created in so many different aspects of military service.  Additionally, the gate serves as a reminder to everyone who passes through that Vanessa was a beacon of hope for the future.

To the Guillén Family, this dedication makes it clear; we will never forget Vanessa and the impact she had on all of us. Her legacy will live on through this gate and through the “People First” initiative; to ensure our Soldiers, Families, and Department of the Army Civilians are always at the center of what we do.

Again, thank you for joining us here this afternoon.

God Bless you and your families.

Phantom Lethal!
