FORT HOOD, Texas – Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center will welcome its newest commander during a change of command ceremony on Sadowski Field here July 7 at 9 a.m.

Col. Mark W. Thompson will relinquish command to Col. David R. Gibson during the ceremony.

Gibson, a Medical Service Corps officer, comes to lead CRDAMC after most recently serving as the chief of staff, AMEDD Center and School,  Health Readiness Center of Excellence in San Antonio.

Thompson took command of CRDAMC in June 2015.  He successfully led the move from the old medical facility to the new hospital in April 2016 with a focus on military readiness and improving the patient experience.  He will leave CRDAMC to assume the position of brigade surgeon of U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Eustis, Virginia.
