FORT HOOD, Texas — Our incredibly busy Soldiers and Families deserve the best possible quality of life. 15+ years of war and operational deployments have caused strain on our people and our equipment, and our facilities are beginning to show their age. We have made our challenges known to the Army’s leadership and they are responding. Soldiers will see changes soon.

Immediate improvements in quality of life come from expanded Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) offerings, such as free advance screenings of Hollywood films at the Palmer Theater, and a potential Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Camp here this year.

On Feb. 17, WWE star wrestler Paul Wight, a.k.a. “The Big Show,” will be at the Clear Creek Post Exchange from 10am to noon.

On Feb. 18, the Georgetown Area Car Club and Sun City Corvette Club will be showing off a collection of classic and modern cars at the Clear Creek Post Exchange from 10am to 2pm.

On Feb. 25, Fort Hood Soldiers will participate in the Dallas Cowboys’ Combine at AT&T Stadium.

On Feb. 26, Fort Hood Soldiers will take advantage of Military Appreciation Day with the Austin Spurs basketball team.

The Clear Creek Post Exchange will continue to bring in star guest authors, such as recent guests Megyn Kelly and Simone Biles.

We are excited about partnerships with regional sports teams that bring college and professional athletes to Fort Hood. Baylor men’s basketball coach Scott Drew hosted a clinic at the Bronco Youth Activity Center and later brought the Bears to play Jackson State in Abrams Gym last December.

Fort Hood has a $65M plan to renovate and build new barracks here, and we have requested $135M more to improve living conditions. Investment in infrastructure is an Army top-five priority.

Better-resourced gyms will ensure the best facilities to work on fitness, a key aspect to health and readiness. We also have a plan to convert the Warrior Way Post Exchange building into a gym.

Upgrades to food courts include a new Qdoba and a Starbucks coming soon. We will upgrade Legends Pub at Club Hood, as well.

Our brigades are busier now than they have ever been, and we are going to grow the Army so that four Soldiers will no longer have to do the work of five. Fort Hood will add at least one more Armored Brigade Combat Team to take some of the deployment strain off the three already here. Changes to the Army’s deployment practices will encourage unit cohesion and reduce turbulence in our Soldiers’ lives.
